Sponsored feature: New Beginnings with the Maruti Suzuki WagonR

As India emerges out of the lockdown and the uncertainty cast by the coronavirus pandemic, it is time to reboot your life and begin anew. To unlock your life as it were — with every safety precaution taken, of course. If you have been eager to get back to life as you knew it, commuting poses a serious problem. With public transport options still erratic, personal mobility is the need of the hour. And there is no better choice you can make on that front other than the iconic Maruti Suzuki WagonR.

The legacy: A 20-year-journey

The WagonR has had a constant presence in India’s top ten bestsellers’ lists for years now, and over the last two decades, it has been a part of the journeys of over 24 lakh families. What’s more, the car has been a repeat buy for over 25% of its customers. The third generation of the WagonR which was launched in January 2019, has been a sales hero as well for Maruti Suzuki and is the ideal car not just to take the illustrious legacy of the brand forward, but also for people who want to reclaim their lives.

The WagonR success formula

The WagonR has everything you’d want in a car that does exemplary duty in the city and can take you out of it as well. It looks and feels contemporary, practicality, as always, is at the heart of the car. With the new WagonR, Maruti Suzuki has built a car that is custom-made for Indian regulations, conditions and customer needs. Built on Suzuki’s state-of-the-art HEARTECT platform, the new WagonR is lighter, has improved dynamics and safety-worthiness, and a cabin that is roomier than before. Dial in its engine options and advanced features inside, and you are looking at a car that can handle everything from rush-hour traffic and Sunday evening drives to the occasional jaunts out of town.

Tailor-made for you

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is still the tall-boy it always was, but it is now also a car that is larger and more spacious. The third generation car is 56mm longer, 125mm wider, and has a longer wheelbase — by 35mm — as well. That translates into a car that looks big with a lot of room on the inside. And it’s not just about space. With its rounded-off nose, sculpted shoulder line, sporty chin, and neatly defined wheel arches, the WagonR will look at home anywhere in the world.

Power and functionality

Prospective buyers have a choice of two BS6-compliant engine options when it comes to the WagonR. The previous model’s doughty 1.0litre, 68hp K10 unit is still around and has been tweaked by Maruti Suzuki’s engineers to make it even more fuel-efficient than before. Then there’s the larger 1.2-litre, 83hp, four-cylinder K12 motor that is just right for people with an eager right foot. More power, of course, does not mean a compromise on fuel efficiency, and its 21.5 kmpl* mileage is among the best in its class.

Maruti Suzuki also offers options when it comes to transmissions. These include the advanced Auto Gear Shift and a manual gearbox, both of which are perfectly mated with the engines. While the manual transmission is of the slick-shifting variety, the AGS delivers extra convenience. The AGS tech, developed and pioneered by Maruti Suzuki, has an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator which handles clutch and shift operations. AGS combines this actuator and the transmission electronic controller unit and directly mounts them in the transmission in order to unify the working components. This helps achieve optimum and synchronized control over the clutch, shifting and the engine, which translates into smooth gear changes.

The WagonR is also endowed with good ride quality and its robust suspension can handle most surface undulations without any fuss.  Just in case you lean towards CNG, Maruti Suzuki also offers a BS6-compliant S-CNG version in its line-up.

Feature-packed and spacious

The WagonR isn’t just impressive when it comes to looks and powertrain options; it also has the interiors sorted. The third-generation model features a classy dual-tone brown and beige upholstery and gets 60:40 split seats at the rear. The interiors are tastefully designed and studded with cubbyholes. The car is also equipped with SmartPlay, Maruti Suzuki’s state-of-the-art touchscreen infotainment system. The SmartPlay Studio, which can be controlled by steering-mounted buttons, offers smartphone connectivity, vehicle information, and cloud-based services along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. And the WagonR also gets a suite of safety features. These include dual front airbags, ABS (antilock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors, all of which are standard across variants.

Trust and commitment

With brilliant engine options, contemporary looks, and the convenience of AGS, the WagonR is a great car all right. But when you add to the fact that it comes from India’s most trusted and largest auto manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, the proposition gets all the more compelling. Clearly, if you are looking forward to getting back to business in a world that has changed over the last six months, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a car that fits the bill better than the Maruti Suzuki WagonR.
